SANTA FE STYLE DOORS

One of the things Santa Fe is most famous for is it's old adobe architecture and beautiful weathered wooden doors and windows.  Among this large collection of wooden treasures are the special doors that are painted blue and highly sought after by photographers.  I have heard multiple stories about the doors being painted blue since I have been here. One is Spanish settlers and their belief and attempts to ward off evil spirits painted the doors blue.  Some believe the sky blue color is associated with the Virgin Mary and offers protection to all inside.  How about the belief that there is a young woman of marrying age that lives in a home with a blue door?  Blue is also thought to be a deterrent and repellent to insects.  A local history buff told me they pay honor to the beautiful blue skies which cover New Mexico on a daily basis, I'll let you decide which one is the truth.
